Locking position with anchors in mixed reality

A lil quiet in here lately :sleeping_bed: but let’s change that with another Friday pro-tip. To kick off the weekend we wanted to shed some light on spatial anchors and how to utilize them with the lock position command

We wrote a blog a while back that covers some of the main concepts Arkio’s mixed reality capabilities. Here is a snippet from the spatial anchors definition.

Using spatial anchors, Arkio locks a virtual scene in place as soon as a user activates passthrough modeling, for example by toggling on the passthrough bracelet button and placing a virtual object in a room. These anchors are persisted on the device and in each scene that is locked to the physical space. This means that whenever the scene is viewed in that same physical space the virtual objects will automatically be aligned to their prior locations in the space.

Something I wanted to draw attention to is a common issue that most people encounter with mixed reality, which is incorrect floor height/scale. If you feel like your model is much smaller than it should be or maybe the floor height isn’t aligning to where your standing, then you will want to follow these steps to calibrate your floor height.

  1. Close Arkio and navigate to your headsets Settings
  2. Navigate to Physical Space and select Set Floor Level
  3. Walk through the step by steps to reset your floor height
  4. Jump back into Arkio and confirm your floor position. A handy way to validate this is by modeling a single cube right next to your foot with passthrough, if the floor is aligned the cube should start right at your foot :foot:
