I’m very excited to test the capabilities of Arkio as part of a research project into architecture and XR. Given I’m mostly based in Rhino…
_Will there be a more seamless integration between Rhino and Arkio to allow export, edit, and import of nurbs geometries?
_Has anyone experimented with a successful Mesh workflow that produces rational/editable meshes that can be exported from Rhino to Arkio and back to Rhino for further editing?
_Introducing an integration to Grasshopper or oder native parametric realtime function would also be a game-changer. Appreciate any feedback or work-around.
_How about expanding on the picture-plane insertion, to allow DWG/PDF drawings to be inserted and live in a pinned construction plane? Then, snapping into lines and vertices would maximize what is possible, and the precision of the base-line.
Welcome to the Arkio community! We’re looking forward to hearing how spatial design collaboration is used in your research project it would be great if you could share some of your work here.
Regarding our integration with Rhino and Grasshopper. We see Arkio as a standalone app with its own modeling engine that can be used to sketch and ideate on top of traditional modeling tools. We plan to make the process of loading geometry via our plugins faster and easier but we don’t want to completely recreate Rhino/Revit/Sketchup in XR. A deeper integration with Rhino (and Revit or other tools) might become possible in the future but right now Arkio can best be used as a 3D tracing paper to collaborate on and load your design ideas back to Rhino.
Did you know that you can currently collaborate with someone using Rhino and Grasshopper from Arkio on PC using an Arkio meeting with Quest and other devices? If the Rhino user bakes the geometry from Grasshopper and makes a new export to update in the Arkio meeting everyone else will directly see that geometry change and can continue to work directly using the strengths of all tools.
If you want to place PDF’s and DWG’s as images in the scene you can currently convert these to JPG or PNG images to work with them in your Arkio scene. PDF support in our roadmap but vector-based imports like DWG and snapping to vertices would be something further in the future. We recommend using Rhino/Revit/Sketchup for 3D designs requiring that higher level of precision and detail as you can load these to Arkio for collaborative ideations and design reviews.
Looking forward to hearing about your work, please let us know if you have further questions about this!
